About the program
The Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program at IIM Amritsar aims to provide an opportunity to young research scholars to pursue active research in their respective field of specialization (or an interdisciplinary field) within the broad contours of business management. It is a full-time program with a duration of two years, extendable for another year subject to satisfactory progress. During the program, the post-doctoral fellows will undertake their research work in collaboration with the existing faculty member(s) of IIM Amritsar. They are expected to carry out high-quality research leading to publications in reputed international journals. Apart from their research activities, post-doctoral fellows are expected to assist faculty member(s) in their teaching activities.
Eligibility
IIM Amritsar offers post-doctoral fellowships to candidates who have strong academic credentials, demonstrated research potential, and curiosity to pursue original research. The following are the minimum eligibility criteria:
1. Candidates who have obtained a PhD degree (or equivalent) from institutions of high repute such as Central Universities, IIMs, IITs, IISERs, IISc Bangalore, NITIE Mumbai, or other globally recognized Indian or foreign institutions of comparable standards (as decided by IIM Amritsar), within the previous five academic years from the date of application, may apply.
2. The maximum age limit for candidates is 40 years (relaxable by 5 years for women and reserved category candidates).
Selection Process
- The eligible applications are evaluated based on candidates’ demonstrated research potential and fit with the research interests of IIM Amritsar faculty members.
- The shortlisted candidates will be invited to present their research work/research interests/research proposal before the selection committee. The research presentation will be followed by a personal interview.
- The Institute will offer the Post-Doctoral Fellowship to the selected candidates.
Structure of the Program
- The duration of the fellowship will be two years, extendable for another year subject to satisfactory performance. The Institute will not extend the fellowship beyond three years.
- Post-doctoral fellows will undertake their research activities in collaboration with faculty members of IIM Amritsar.
- Apart from research, post-doctoral fellows are expected to assist their research area faculty member(s) in teaching activities. This academic assistance will help fellows gain first-hand teaching experience.
- The Fellowship Program Committee will meet once every six months to review the progress of post-doctoral fellows.
- By the end of two years, a fellow is expected to complete a minimum of two research papers (other than their doctoral work). Of these, at least one should be accepted for publication (ABDC Category B or above), and the other should be under review (after clearing the editorial desk).
- At the end of two years, the Fellowship Program Committee will review research contributions and recommend a Certificate of Completion for the program. If progress is satisfactory, the committee may recommend extension of the fellowship up to one year.
- During the program, fellows are expected to complete the suggested coursework designed to provide exposure to various functional areas of management and quantitative/qualitative research methods.
- Post-doctoral fellows must conform to all rules and regulations of the Institute governing the services of its employees.
- Post-doctoral fellows may avail up to 24 days of leave per calendar year (on a pro-rata basis) as per the Institute’s leave policy.
- The Institute may terminate the fellowship, or a fellow may leave the program, after giving one month's notice. No reason for termination needs to be provided by either party.
Financial Assistance
IIM Amritsar provides limited financial aid to its post-doctoral fellows (from the date of joining). The details are as follows:
